Creating a people-oriented sustainable healthcare communication platform, visual design helps implement ESG concepts
Amid the global wave of sustainability, the healthcare industry is not only a guardian of health but also plays a key role in promoting ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) concepts. Kaohsiung Municipal Datong Hospital, a major public medical institution in southern Taiwan, has actively responded to government policies and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in recent years. They commissioned the Creative Media Marketing team to plan and design their inaugural ESG Sustainability Report, strengthening communication with stakeholders while also enhancing the content's warmth and readability through professional visual design.
Sustainability Report Visual Design: Balancing Medical Expertise and Humanistic Care
The core design principles of this report revolve around the three key themes of "local presence, public welfare, and innovation." Through in-depth interviews, data compilation, and style proposals by the Creative Ideas Media Marketing team, a visual language unique to Datong Hospital's brand was gradually crystallized. The overall color palette, based on "trusting blue" and "warm yellow," symbolizes the balance between medical expertise and humanistic care. Hand-drawn illustrations and real-life photography are used to make the sustainable content more relatable to the public.
In terms of information visualization, the team transformed extensive data and policy content into concise, easy-to-read charts and flow charts, which not only improved reading efficiency but also facilitated more effective communication of findings within the hospital. The report also took into account accessibility standards, with a clear and organized layout, making it easier for readers of all ages and backgrounds to understand the core sustainability content.
ESG Key Content Interpretation | Deepening Stakeholder Communication
The sustainability report covers the hospital's specific actions in three key areas: environmental protection, social services, and transparent governance. The design team helped restructure the original data, building a clear logical framework based on stakeholder expectations, corresponding to each ESG action and its benefits.
For example, in the environmental section, a "Green Hospital Promotion Chronology" and a "Carbon Management Performance Diagram" are specially designed to highlight the hospital's systematic efforts from energy-saving lighting, the use of green building materials, to the reduction of medical waste; while the social section uses graphics to present highlights such as community health promotion, disability-friendly services, and long-term care support; the governance section emphasizes integrity management and the transparency of risk management systems, combining QR Code extended reading and policy announcement links to enhance reader participation.
Customized content integration | Design process from draft to finalization
The report went through multiple rounds of communication and revisions. The Creative Ideas team adopted a project management approach, from the initial outline proposal, design style discussions, infographic production, to printing and delivery, to ensure both progress and quality.
The design of the cover and unit opening pages garnered particular attention. The team employed the concept of "medical expertise interwoven with local human connection," combining the Kaohsiung landscape with images of Datong medical staff to convey the hospital's long-standing commitment to local care and the spirit of protecting lives. The overall design style garnered widespread praise within the hospital and effectively enhanced the report's acceptance and resonance with stakeholders such as local government, the medical industry, and community residents.
Corporate Sustainability Report Design | The Value of Visual Integration Services
This project marks the first time a medical institution has published a sustainability report. Creative Media Marketing not only provided visual design planning, but also extended its services to include content structure assistance, graphic integration, layout design, data visualization, and print supervision. By adding value through design, sustainability is no longer just a policy document, but a brand narrative that is warm, easy to read, shareable, and memorable.
This is more than just a report; it serves as a bridge for local Kaohsiung medical brands to communicate their responsibility and commitment to society. The Creative Ideas team hopes to help more public institutions, medical institutions, and private enterprises convey sustainable concepts through professional design language, thereby shaping more influential brand value.
